Dr.’s told Sophia Loren she couldn’t have children, but she and her loving husband Carlo Ponti were blessed with two. They were married for forty years before he died.
In an interview in September 2019, Loren was honest about her relationship with Ponti. She said that there was no secret to how long they had been together when asked.
“We both fell in love at first sight.” The Italian actress said, “We met at a beauty pageant in Rome when I was sixteen, and he was on the jury.” Loren told the story of how the Italian film director saw her with her friends and got in touch to ask her to join the competition.
She did, and she came in second place. Loren said she and Ponti started dating in a “friendly” way and didn’t become romantically involved until she was 19. “We really did love each other,” she said.
In an interview in October 2017, Loren was asked if she often fell in love on set. She said, “Maybe little flings, but falling in love is a whole other thing.” “Maybe you only fall in love once in your whole life.”
When asked when she knew her life would change for the better, Loren said she thinks awards are due. “Every reward comes from hard work, dedication, and giving up things you want.” “And of being stubborn,” the Hollywood star said. As an example, she said:
“A doctor from Italy told me I couldn’t have kids.” I never agreed with him, and in the end, I showed him to be wrong. I never agreed with them.”
Ponti and Loren got married in April 1966, and two years later they had their first child. The couple had their first child, Carlo Ponti Jr., in December 1968. Five years later, in January 1973, they had their youngest boy, Edoardo Ponti.
Ponti passed away in Geneva, Switzerland, in January 2007. They had been married for 41 years. Loren never got married again, and she is still a widow.

The oldest son of Loren, Carlo Jr., is married to Andrea Meszaros Ponti and has two children with her. They got married in 2004. “NCIS” star Sasha Alexander is married to her second child, Edoardo, and the two kids they share are Lucia and Leonardo. In 2007, they got married.
When asked how she spends her time now, the Oscar winner said she tries to do something good every day, for herself and for the people around her. It’s easy for her because she loves hearing the good news about her kids’ lives.
In 2019, Loren said, “The beauty of my grandchildren makes me happy, even though they live far away in California.” The movie star gave them and her children this advice when asked what she would want them to learn from her life: “That they are what makes my life worthwhile.” Family is the most important thing to her.
The proud and loving mother of two boys said that her kids are smart, polite, and have good morals. She said that they turned out well.
