“Humor has no limits; it’s the people who use it that must have limits,” say social scientists, and they’re probably right. Some people think there are no boundaries, but others might find some jokes mean. This happened to Amy Schumer after she posted a picture of Nicole Kidman, but things quickly went wrong.
Amy put a picture of Nicole on Instagram with the word “funny” next to it.
Amy Schumer’s memes seem to be based on how famous people reacted to the U.S. Open tennis event. Nicole Kidman was in one of them.
The comedian had previously shared a now-deleted Instagram picture of the actress watching the event from the stands. The photo’s text read, “This is how humans sit,” which was picked up by the media.
In the picture, Kidman had her hand under her chin as she watched the game.
A lot of Amy’s friends called her “mean,” but some stood up for her.
People quickly said mean things about Amy’s post, even though it seemed like she wrote it in jest. They said she was being mean to the star. Soon after, she took down the post.
Someone wrote, “Putting other people down is always a sign of our own insecurities, so these critics should look in the mirror.” Someone else wrote, “Amy, you mean girl, shame on you!!!”
There were, however, some supporters who defended Amy and said it was just a joke. “She’s a comedian,” said one guy. Laughter artists tell jokes. “Be calm.” Someone told a critic to “chill out,” and someone else said, “Take a joke.” Someone in the crowd said, “It’s a joke.”
Amy had to say sorry for her post later.
After all those comments, Schumer quickly took down the picture of Nicole and said she was sorry in a later post, which she later took down too. She seemed to joke in her apology that she shared the picture of Kidman because she thought she looked like “an alien.”
The comedian said, “I want to apologize to everyone I hurt by posting a picture of Nicole Kidman and making a joke about her being an alien.”
Nicole has been made fun of online before. Fans recently told her that the miniskirt she was wearing was too short for her, but Nicole had the right answer for them.
