Several scary news stories say that famous former Olympic gymnast Mary Lou Retton is “fighting for her life” in intensive care as she fights with a rare form of pneumonia.
The 55-year-old woman’s family told the scary news late last night, saying that Retton “is not able to breathe on her own.”
In 1984, she won the gold medal in the individual all-around event at the Olympics in Los Angeles. This made the gymnast one of the most famous US athletes to ever participate in the sport.
It was the first time in history that an American woman won both the all-around gold medal and any other solo medal in gymnastics.
Retton went on to be in a lot of movies and TV shows in the 1980s and 1990s. She became famous all over the country because of her work. She was named Sportsperson of the Year by Sports Illustrated in 1984.
She has a daughter named McKenna Kelley who told her fans that her mother is in the intensive care unit (ICU) with a rare form of pneumonia. This was bad news for her fans.
The message that McKenna wrote on Spotfund is: “Hey everyone! Thanks for your help. My sisters and I need it.
What a wonderful mother I have. Mary Lou is fighting for her life because she has a very rare form of pneumonia. She’s not able to breathe by herself.
“She has been in the ICU for more than a week.” I won’t tell you everything because I respect her and her privacy. I will say, though, that she is not covered.
“If you can help in any way, please 1) Pray! (second) if you could help us pay the hospital bill.
Anything, anything at all, would be so helpful for my family and mom. Thank you all so much!”
After Retton quit from gymnastics, she became a motivational speaker. She was also on the President’s Council on Physical Fitness and Sports under former President George W. Bush.
We are praying that God will heal Mary Lou Retton. If you want to join the conversation, share this story on social media or leave a comment.
