Before Goldie Hawn, actor Season Hubley was the Priscilla to Kurt Russell’s Elvis, both on and off the screen.
The stars of Elvis split in 1983, the same year Russell reconnected with Hawn, and Hubley, the mother of Russell’s oldest son, disappeared from the spotlight.
And though Russell’s ex-wife is seldom seen, fans still treasure the now retired star, some saying she’s “more beautiful than Goldie.”
In 1979, Kurt Russell starred as the “king of rock and roll” in the film Elvis, a made-for-TV biographical drama on the life of the legendary singer who died in 1977.
The movie, that earned both Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy nominations, also starred Russell’s dad Bing as his on-screen father, and actor Season Hubley, a gorgeous blue-eyed blonde as Priscilla.
Russell, now 73, was completely smitten by his co-star, who appeared in films like Lolly-Madonna XXX and TV series, including Family and Starsky and Hutch.
The same year the highly acclaimed TV film was released, Russell and Hubley were married, and the next year they welcomed son Boston Russell, who was born in February 1980.
The new parents then appeared in 1981’s Escape From New York, with Russell in a starring role and Hubley playing the Chock Full O’Nuts girl, in a dystopian Manhattan.
‘The one and only’
Then, in 1983, the Escape From L.A. actor was reunited with Goldie Hawn, an actor whom he starred with in Disney’s 1968 live-action movie musical The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band.
“I was 21 and he was 16 and I thought he was adorable but he was much too young,” Hawn said in 2012. “And then years later we met up again and I liked him and I remembered that I liked him very much when I first met him.”
The two were at an audition for the 1984 film Swing Shift and when they were reunited, Russell recalls putting his “worst foot forward.”
“I didn’t know Goldie at all outside of having worked with her many years before,” he said of reconnecting with Hawn on the film set. “I just didn’t know in my mind what I was going to see. She had a great body, and so the first that came out was ‘Man, you got a great figure.’ And it kind of came out quickly and it could’ve been wrong, and she said, ‘Why thank you.’”
The actors, who starred together in the 1987 film Overboard, blended their families and raised a new generation of superstars, including Kate and Oliver Hudson – from Hawn’s previous marriage – and Wyatt, the only child the two share.
Boston, Hubley’s son, is close to his step siblings but chose a path away from Hollywood.
‘Not about the marriage’
Now, after 40 years, the stars of The Christmas Chronicles are still loved up and though they are unmarried, they live in a forever honeymoon.
“We constantly got asked, ‘When are you going to get married? Why aren’t you married?’” tells Variety in 2023. “And we were like, ‘Why does anybody care about that?’ We’d asked our kids if they cared about it. They didn’t. We didn’t.”
Speaking with People about their decision to not marry, Hawn says “You’ve just got to want to be together. I don’t think there’s any way other than do it.”
The twice-divorced star says “It’s not about the marriage. It’s about the people and the relationship, and the will to stay together. And that’s a big one because if you want it, you can have it. You’ve got to give things up, but the joy and the excitement of being together and touching the toes of somebody at night is really a nice feeling.”
‘Looks just like Goldie’
Meanwhile, Hubley, who’s now 73, retired after appearing in a 1999 episode of the TV series Flipper.
According to her Facebook profile, the former star of All My Children currently dedicates her time to animal welfare and volunteers at a rescue.
Though Hubley chose to leave the fame behind her, fans have not forgotten her.
After an old image of Hubley, Russell and baby Boston emerged on social media, the online population was quick to offer their opinions on the woman, some suggesting she’s “more beautiful than Goldie.”
One netizen writes, “Possibly the most beautiful couple I’ve ever seen! Sorry it didn’t work out!” Comparing the beautiful blonde with a pixie haircut to Russell’s lifelong partner, a second writes, “I think Season is much more beautiful than Goldie.”
“He was so cute. She outlooked Goldie,” shares a third.
Others were team Hawn: “I prefer Goldie Hawn,” writes one while a second adds, “I like him with Goldie, much better.”
Meanwhile, some said Hawn and Hubley share some similar characteristics.
“Wow she looks just like Goldie!” writes one and another says, “He has a type, beautiful blondes with breathtaking eyes.”
