Hotel Vovó Carolina in the center of Gramado: is it worth the stay?

On the last trip to Gramado, I preferred to stay downtown, on Av. Borges de Medeiros, the main tourist attraction in the city. I chose the Hotel Grandma Carolinawhich is just a 6-minute walk from Rua Coberta, full of restaurants.

It’s not a cheap hotel. By the way, in what is the best location in Gramado, it is difficult to save money. But, among the best options for inns, I thought that Vovó Carolina had the best value for money.

Attention! In Gramado there is also the Pousada Vovó Carolina, which belongs to the same network. It is a more upscale hotel in a worse location and similar prices.

How was your stay at Hotel Vovó Carolina

I booked the hotel through Booking.com and the photos are true to reality. I arrived knowing that, despite the price and the fact that it called itself a “hotel”, it was actually a simple inn, without luxuries. The high price for the standard of the inn is justified only by the location. There is no better place in Gramado. You can do everything on foot.

The employees also deserve praise. They are quite friendly and helpful.

I had to use the hotel garage. It is included in the daily rate and operates 24 hours a day. But it’s pretty tight. If renting a car (compare prices), avoid large vehicles such as SUVs. To get out, you usually have to call the valet to get other cars out of your way.

In the double room I booked, there was an extra single bed. Good for those traveling with children. Spacious and with closet. Large bathroom, good shower, easy to adjust the temperature, which can be very hot. What is important in the winter in Gramado.

Although the hotel is on the avenue, many rooms face the garden on the side street. Silent place. Noise only came from neighboring rooms. In addition to the thin walls, the windows overlook a collective corridor, which hinders isolation.

Is it worth staying at Hotel Vovó Carolina?

It depends what you prefer. As I said at the beginning, it is a simple inn, without luxuries and with an old look. But it is very well taken care of, clean, the service is good, breakfast is well served and the main thing: the location is the best in Gramado.

If you want to stay in Borges de Medeiros, close to Rua Coberta and in a comfortable and well-rated hotel, you can go to Vovó Carolina in peace.

If you prefer luxury, for the price of the Hotel Vovó Carolina you will find higher standard options, although farther from the center. In this case, you will need to use your car, taxi or transport apps like Uber more.
