Team USA secured a silver medal in the women’s 4 x 200m freestyle relay on Thursday, and Katie Ledecky broke yet another record.

With 13 medals, the 27-year-old became the most decorated woman in the history of Olympic swimming. In her most recent victory, she broke a tie that she had previously maintained with swimmers Dara Torres, Jenny Thompson, and Natalie Coughlin.

On Wednesday, the Maryland native secured her eighth gold medal and 12th overall medal in the demanding 1500m freestyle event. Ledecky achieved an Olympic record time of 15:30.02 to finish the race, thereby tying Thompson for the most gold medals won by a female swimmer in Olympic history.

While swimming, Ledecky disclosed to reporters that she permitted her mind to wander and contemplated the individuals who had assisted her in achieving her current status.

“During the race, I allowed my mind to wander, reflecting on the individuals who have trained with me.” It was akin to reciting their names in my mind and reflecting on them. I have a deep affection for my Florida crew, all of the Florida boys who have consistently motivated me. I am aware that I frequently cause you to work hard, but you all made my day a lot easier today. I am extremely grateful.

The 27-year-old swimmer was presented with an additional opportunity to increase her medal tally on Thursday.

Ledecky, Claire Weinstein, Paige Madden, and Erin Gemmell comprised Team USA, which competed in the 4 x 200m freestyle relay. They secured the second position, trailing Australia.

Ledecky became the most decorated American woman in Olympic history and the most decorated woman of any country in swimming history as a result of the team’s victory, which earned her her 13th medal. She is preceded only by Michael Phelps, who has 28 medals.

Ledecky has one final opportunity to augment her medal collection as the swimming season concludes. On Saturday, she will participate in the 800m freestyle.

Despite the fact that the Paris Olympics will be Ledecky’s fourth Olympics, she is determined to qualify for the 2028 games in Los Angeles.

“Yes, I have consistently expressed my desire to compete in Los Angeles over the past few months and years, and that has not changed.”

Katie, congratulations! You are the most exceptional individual of all time.
