Adam Sandler Walks Out of the Oscars After Conan O’Brien Roasts His Casual Attire
The 97th Academy Awards was a night of dazzling gowns, sharp tuxedos, and Hollywood glamour—well, for almost everyone. Adam Sandler, known for his laid-back style, stood out from the sea of meticulously styled stars, and host Conan O’Brien wasn’t about to let it slide.

A Casual Look on Hollywood’s Biggest Night
As celebrities strutted down the red carpet in their most extravagant ensembles, Sandler arrived at the star-studded event in his signature relaxed fashion: a hoodie, basketball shorts, and a pair of Steph Curry sneakers. While most attendees embraced the glitz and glamour of the evening, Sandler remained true to his famously comfortable aesthetic.

And Conan O’Brien took notice.

Taking the stage as the Oscars host, the 61-year-old comedian scanned the crowd during his opening monologue before stopping on Sandler.

“For an occasion this prestigious, it’s crucial that everyone comes dressed appropriately,” O’Brien quipped. “And Adam… well… you’re here.”

The camera cut to Sandler, who was sitting comfortably in an aisle seat, hoodie pulled up over his head. Without missing a beat, the Happy Gilmore star grinned and replied, “Conan, my man, what’s up?”

A Playful Exchange
O’Brien continued to poke fun at Sandler’s outfit, finally asking, “Adam, what exactly are you wearing?”

Feigning surprise at the question, Sandler hesitated for a moment before joking, “Nobody was even thinking about what I had on until you brought it up!”

Not one to let the moment slip away, O’Brien fired back, “You look like a guy playing video poker at a gas station at two in the morning.”

Sandler, ever the good sport, defended himself in classic fashion. “Listen, I like the way I look. I’m a good person, and I don’t care what I wear. If my luxurious gym shorts and cozy hoodie offend you that much, then I don’t know what to tell you.”

Sensing the bit was reaching its peak, O’Brien playfully acted remorseful, looking down at his podium. But Sandler wasn’t done.

The Walkout (Sort Of)

Rising to his feet, Sandler announced, “That’s it. I’m outta here. I have to go!”

The crowd erupted in laughter and groaned in protest, with several stars calling out, “No, stay!”

Sandler turned toward them and smirked. “It’s not you guys—it’s him,” he said, dramatically pointing at O’Brien, who could barely contain his laughter.

Before making his grand exit, Sandler offered a final parting shot. “If anyone wants to join me, I’ll be at Veteran Park for some five-on-five basketball. Midnight tip-off. And just so you know—the guy from Nosferatu is on my team.”

The crowd roared with laughter as he made his way down the aisle.

A Familiar Callback
Before stepping out of the theater, Sandler stopped beside Timothée Chalamet, who had been nominated for A Complete Unknown. Leaning in, he suddenly shouted, “CHALAMET!” directly in the young actor’s ear before embracing him in a hug.

The moment was a playful nod to a Golden Globes joke earlier this year, when host Nikki Glaser had pointed out that Chalamet’s name sounded like something Sandler would randomly yell in one of his over-the-top voices.

Was It All in Good Fun?
While it was clear the entire exchange was staged, it made for one of the night’s funniest moments. The Oscars are no stranger to unexpected antics, and Sandler and O’Brien delivered a comedy bit that had the audience—and viewers at home—laughing out loud.
