Approval ratings for President Donald Trump and his extensive reductions to the federal budget are experiencing a notable increase in recent polls. A significant number of Americans are expressing their approval of President Trump and the Department of Government Efficiency, which has emerged as a symbol of fiscal prudence by highlighting some of the most wasteful or ineffective aspects of government operations. The favorable perception of the Republican leader is also positively influencing the reputation of Congress, which has historically been one of the least popular institutions according to polling data. Currently, 53% of Americans endorse President Trump’s performance in office, while 44% do not. This level of support aligns with a similar poll conducted last week.
Quantus Insights, a highly regarded polling organization, has provided additional information indicating that Donald Trump’s support is increasing among both Republican and independent voters. Since the beginning of February, his backing among Republicans has risen by 4 points, while his support among independents has increased by 3 points.
Moreover, Trump has seen a rise in support among male voters, with a 3-point increase noted since the start of this month. His standing among female voters remains balanced, which is a favorable position for a Republican president.
His position is enhancing voters’ positive perceptions of both DOGE (49.3%) and a generic Republican congressperson (48.3%), a development that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) is likely pleased to observe. In spite of the Democrats’ complaints that Elon Musk is undermining the federal government, voters appear satisfied with his methods.
In a similar vein, the Republican majority in the House is aligned with voters who are eager to take advantage of some of their latest initiatives, such as the recently enacted Lake Riley Act, which broadens the criteria for the expedited arrest and deportation of illegal immigrants.
Just three weeks into his presidency, President Trump has enacted hundreds of executive orders that are reshaping the federal government in numerous ways that voters are applauding. He has dismantled USAID, drawing attention to some of the agency’s spending priorities that diverged from public sentiment, such as allocating $50 million for condoms in Africa and funding Iraqi television stations to broadcast episodes of Sesame Street.
During a press conference with Trump on Wednesday, Musk disclosed that the federal government has been storing retirement records in a vast limestone mine, where numerous federal employees sift through an overwhelming volume of physical documents. This antiquated system has historically restricted federal retirement applications to 10,000 per month.
Such measures are fostering the perception among voters that President Trump is “tough,” “energetic,” “focused,” and “effective,” as indicated by a poll conducted last week. These views stand in stark contrast to the image of former President Joe Biden, who is often perceived as a semi-lucid 82-year-old frequently seen dozing off or stumbling in public.
One of President Trump’s most significant challenges in his first year will be to deliver on his commitment to reduce the cost of goods, an area where voters have not yet rated him highly. Nevertheless, the majority of those surveyed believe he will require at least six months to address a problem that has worsened under President Biden.
