Sunday afternoon, little Gracelyn Vick vanished from Saucier, Mississippi.
Her family claims she went outdoors at midday to play in the yard but never returned.
Many online rumors floating about
Her family called police as hours went by with no indication of her. Roughly six hours long, the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office in Mississippi started an urgent search.
Nearby law enforcement agencies, Gulf Coast Search and Rescue, helicopters, drones and about 40 local volunteers joined in to help seek for Gracelynn.
Sadly, her body was found later that day close to the family home.
Nobody has been taken into custody
Deputies blocked off a portion of the family’s property including a swing set and places where cattle were maintained. Well into the night, crime scene investigators spent hours recording the scene and collecting evidence.
WLOX said Gracelyn’s body was removed from the property about 8 p.m.
Harrison County Sheriff Matt Haley spoke on one of the many online speculations about the inquiry on Monday. A family member said 6-year-old Gracelynn Vick’s body was found close to her Saucier home.
Haley remarked, “So far, no one has been arrested in the case; it’s too early to say whether foul play is involved.” The inquiry is still active.
The Clarion-Ledger reports that an autopsy scheduled for Monday at the state crime lab in Biloxi will help establish Gracelyn’s cause of death.
Social media has been flooded with solidarity for Gracelynn Vick’s bereaved family since her sad passing.
Mother’s third loss
Grief counselors have been called in at Saucier Elementary to assist kids in dealing with the tragic loss of their young classmate.
According to Sun Herald, Gracelynn is the third child Vicky Lynn (Wedgeworth) Hutcherson has lost in recent years, making the agony nearly unbearable for her mother.
Gracelynn’s 13-year-old stepsister, Victoria Hutcherson, was murdered in a terrible U.S. 49 accident just last year, in March 2024. Authorities claimed she was riding in a minivan attempting to cross four lanes of traffic when it struck a dump truck. Remembered by her family as a caring protective older sister who loved her siblings, Victoria was an eighth grader at West Wortham Elementary School.
Tragedy struck the family again in July 2021 when 18-year-old Larry Hart, Gracelynn’s brother, died from a medical problem, his obituary stated.

Reading this is such a really sad tale. Rest in peace, tiny Gracelynn. Hoping the cops are allowed to operate quietly and completely so they can find out precisely what occurred.
