I assumed there must have been an error when I found the scribbled bill on my daughter-in-law’s kitchen counter the following morning. Or a mean joke, perhaps. However, it seemed more genuine the more I gazed at those well-written numbers. I read it a second time, then a third, my hands trembling as each number burned into my mind.
