Jon Bon Jovi Opens His Third Community Restaurant for College Students in Need

Jon Bon Jovi is not just a rock legend; he’s also a caring soul committed to making a difference. Through his dedicated efforts, he has successfully launched three community restaurants designed to feed the hungry, offering meals to those in need at no cost. In an earlier story, we highlighted the inception of his first two ventures, and now, the Bon Jovi foundation continues to touch lives across the globe. Here’s a warm update on their latest achievements.

The Roots of JBJ Foundation

Founded in 2000, the JBJ Foundation is a non-profit endeavor with a mission to aid underprivileged individuals in the U.S. and beyond. Over the years, this mission has expanded its reach as far as Africa. The foundation’s initiative, JBJ Soul Kitchen, is a prime example of its efforts. To date, they’ve provided over 155,000 meals, where 54% were earned by volunteering and the rest paid through generous donations. At the heart of it, the kitchen welcomes everyone, especially those unable to afford a meal, offering them a chance to enjoy a three-course meal in exchange for an hour of work at the restaurant.

A New Beginning at Rutgers University

The Soul Kitchen’s three-course meals are fresh, hot, and welcoming at the two established locations in Red Bank and Toms River, New Jersey. These restaurants have become a hub of community, generating contributions and goodwill among patrons. Now, a third restaurant has opened its doors at Rutgers University, a collaborative effort between the university and the JBJ Foundation. “There are college students going hungry,” Bon Jovi said, acknowledging a reality for many young adults. This new location means countless students won’t have to worry about affording a warm, nutritious meal.

JBJ Foundation Impact Through 2022

This past year, JBJ Soul Kitchen served 24,000 meals via partnerships, clocked 15,000 volunteer hours, and 58% of their meals reached the needy. They’re currently raising funds for a winter season “hope center.” Their mission? “To recognize and enhance the potential of those affected by issues like hunger and homelessness by providing food, affordable housing, and support services like job training programs.”

Acknowledgments and New Collaborations

JBJ Soul Kitchen’s dedication has netted numerous accolades and partnerships, including Trip Advisor’s Travelers’ Choice Award for 2022 and a grant from Kohl’s Cares. With assistance from Naloxone Administration, the team has now become certified trainers. Fundraisers also bolstered their resources, helping to continue their noble work. The aim is clear: to disrupt the cycle of hunger, poverty, and homelessness, one “Soul” at a time, creating a space where strangers come together as family.

If given a chance, would you lend a hand at one of these remarkable places? Share your thoughts about the JBJ Foundation’s work in your own community’s comment space below.
