I built our baby’s crib while 9 months pregnant since my husband wouldn’t, but I taught him a hard lesson.

A Mother’s Lesson: Inaction’s Weight Eloise was desperate at nine months pregnant. Her husband Tom had put off assembling the crib despite her reminders, and her due date was nearing. Eloise became frustrated and alienated as time went on, so she took action. She planned to teach Tom a lasting lesson.

Unopened Crib Box Reflects Broken Promises Eloise glanced at the unopened crib box in the nursery, remembering Tom’s procrastination.

“Tomorrow,” he said, but it never came.

As her due date approached, Eloise felt Tom’s inaction more than ever. The crib, once a straightforward task, seemed to symbolize her anxieties that Tom wouldn’t be the father she needed. Acting on Her Own Eloise built the crib alone, frustrated and alone.

She dragged the heavy box across the room, ignoring the searing back twinges, eager to finish what Tom had neglected. Tom casually entered as she struggled with the directions, shaking her hands. He told her, “Good job,” with a casual smile.

Why did you seek me for help if you can do it? No words from Eloise.

Did he not comprehend? Instead of crying, she turned aside, knowing he could never understand her pain. Tom Wake-Up Call A racing thoughts kept Eloise up that night. Not only was the crib important, but so was Tom’s dismissal, believing she didn’t need him because she was strong. Eloise realized she had to take severe measures to make Tom recognize the impact of his actions—or lack thereof. The next morning, she planned. “Tom,” she imitated tiredness, “I think I’m going to take it easy today. Was very exhausted lately.” She then asked him to finish preparing for a modest party the next day. Tom confidently dismissed her, asking, “How hard can it be?” He didn’t realize Eloise set him up for failure. Planned chaos Tom realized his unpreparedness as he hurried to do Eloise’s responsibilities. “Where the heck is the cake order?” he mumbled, recognizing he was in over his head. Eloise stayed in bed, listening to his panic, knowing this was his wake-up call. Tom was a mess when guests arrived. The decorations were half-done, the food was barely cooked, and he was stressed. His mother was disappointed when she observed the chaos. She judgementally inquired, “What’s going on here, Tom?” A Learning Experience Eloise addressed the party as it progressed. “It’s been hard getting ready for the baby since I’ve been doing a lot of the preparations myself,” she remarked steadily. “Including assembling the crib by myself just a few days ago, big belly and all.” Tom was embarrassed as the room went silent. After visitors left, Tom apologized. “I’m sorry,” he mumbled, “I didn’t realize how much I was leaving on your shoulders.” Eloise stared at him, her heart heavy from weeks of stress. I need to trust you, Tom. I shouldn’t have to do this alone.” Tom, repentant, promised to change. I’ll do better. I’ll attend. I assure you.” Eloise nodded cautiously, accepting his words. Tom, here is your chance. Avoid wasting.” Tom learnt the value of partnership in marriage and children, which Eloise thought would strengthen their relationship.
