The moment Veda, Brynne’s mother-in-law, arrived to collect the Christmas presents for her grandchildren, she left everyone in a state of shock. Later on, Brynne and Wes, her husband, discovered that Veda had done it in order to punish them… However, karma ensured that Veda experienced the same misery as the children did.
It never occurred to me that I would tell this story. The actions of my mother-in-law, Veda, during the Christmas season completely blew my mind. Mean in-laws are not a new phenomenon.
It continues to amaze me.
My name is Brynne, and I am the mother of three wonderful children: Jude, who is seven years old, Lila, who is five years old, and little Sven, who is three years old. In our home, Christmas is a very important holiday, and it has been ever since I was a young child. The stakes are high.
In addition to the presents, there is also the tree and the lights. In most cases, Veda arrives at the house with a plethora of gifts for the children, acting as the ideal grandmother for a single day each year.
This time, Veda surpassed her previous accomplishments. While Lila’s eyes lit up over a princess castle toy, Jude was finally able to get his hands on the LEGO set that he had been begging for. One of our little speedsters, Sven, was driving around the living room in a ride-on car that was very cute.
She went so far as to provide nice clothes for all three of the children.
According to what she said, “They need to look nice for pictures, Brynne.” “They are a perfect match!”
It was… just fantastic. Sincerely, I.
Children were ecstatic by the news. The attention, playing with their toys, displaying their gifts, and strutting around in their new clothing were all things that they very much enjoyed.
It seemed to me that perhaps this was the year. The year that Veda and I would finally be able to get along with each other.
Warning: I was completely wrong.
The home was still filled with holiday spirit even after two days had passed since Christmas. The decorations are kept up until almost the New Year’s holiday, which is not unusual at all. Having their most treasured toys all around them brought joy to the children.
I went so far as to send Veda a text message to express my gratitude for the wonderful presents.
Hello, Veda! I want to express my gratitude for the way you spoiled the children this Christmas. You are the very best!
The doorbell then began to ring.
“Mom, are you able to get it?” Jude posed the question while dangling grapes above Sven’s head.
I said, “I’m on it.” “Would you kindly make sure that your brother does not choke?”
When I answered the door, I saw Veda standing there with three large bags that were filled with nothing. She appeared to be on the verge of exploding, since her face was red.
“Veda, how are you?” I stated that. “What’s the matter?”
She chose not to respond. In the living room, where the children were playing with Lila’s castle, she forced her way past me and entered the room.
As soon as she began placing Jude’s LEGO parts into a bag, I went completely still. It was decided to push the ride-on car aside. Then, Lila’s castle was also brought inside.
She snapped at Jude, “Where are the clothes I got you?” with a sarcastic tone.
His words were muddled as he said, “In the laundry, Grandma.”
“Go and get them right away,” she yelled.
I could not move because I was so surprised.
Jude hurried to the restroom and returned with the clothes after he had finished.
What are you doing, Grandma? I must know. With a trembling voice, he inquired.
There was a slight tremor in Lila’s lip as she held her princess doll.
“Why is Grandma taking a lot of our belongings, Mommy?” Asked by her.
I was completely clueless. I was standing there, trying to make sense of what was going on in my head.
On the other hand, I really lost it when Veda grabbed the ride-on car and prevented Sven from hopping on.
“Veda, have you been doing something?” When I finally found my voice, I let out a roar.
She did not look in my direction.
“You’ll come to regret what you did,” she whispered in a chilly tone as she closed the bags with a zipper.
Then, without uttering a single word, she slammed the door and rushed out of the room.
They were inconsolable, the children. For several hours, Jude sobbed and questioned why Grandma was so angry. The world seemed to have come to an end for Lila as she sat on the floor, clinging to a plush animal. Sven was hunting for his automobile and wandering around aimlessly.
“Mommy, where is my road vehicle?” He inquired about it.
My attempt to console them was unsuccessful since I was at a loss for words. What had we been doing? Why would Veda want to have the presents that she had given back?
I shared everything with Wes after he arrived at his house.
What did she just do? The color red appeared on Wes’s face as he reached for his phone. It’s completely insane.
He gave her a call. There is no response. He sent a text message. There was no response.
As he spoke to Brynne, he said, “I don’t get it.” “What would bring her to steal their toys? Where are their garments? I have no idea what to do.”
I responded with, “Me too.” It was too much for me to bear to stop her. Well, Wes, you really ought to have seen their faces.
We were left in the dark about Veda’s prank because she chose to remain silent.
Wes was ultimately successful in getting her to call him three days later.
From his end of the call, I was able to determine that her justification was completely absurd. The man continued to mutter while massaging his head.
With a sigh, he said, “You’re kidding.”
As soon as he hung up, he stared at me in a confused manner.
As he spoke, he said, “You won’t believe this.”
“What is it?” I inquired about it.
In response to her Christmas present, he stated, “She is furious.”
“What is it?” Again, I must say.
She want the luxurious purse that she had been dropping hints about. We decided to give her a gift card to her favorite retailer, which was worth $250. According to her, it was impolite.
While I was stunned, I stared at Wes.
Is it the reason why she stole the presents from the children? What may be the matter with her?
While still trying to make sense of the insanity, Wes nodded.
“Yes, she told us that we had humiliated her by giving her the gift card, and she granted us a few days to make amends. She took the presents away from us as a kind of discipline when we failed to do so.
I was completely taken aback.
It was me who remarked, “You’re joking, Wes.”
Sighing, he said, “Nope.” In exchange for a handbag, she stole Christmas presents from the children.
Even though we were angry, we were not going to let Veda’s outburst turn Christmas into a disaster. That weekend, we put our savings toward the purchase of new toys.
Although it was a blow to our finances, it was well worth it to see the children’s smiles return.
Whereas Veda? Karma knew exactly what to do.
Nia, Wes’s cousin, called a few days later with some shocking information.
While I was preparing dinner, Wes was assisting Jude with his schoolwork for the holiday.
“Have you heard what your mother actually did?” Nia inquired while giggling.
It was Wes who mumbled, “Oh yeah.” We are aware of her elaborate plan. What makes it so funny?
To tell you the truth, she has been boasting to the family about how she has taught you a lesson. However, her companion, who is very involved in charitable work, discovered the truth.
The word “charity” What exactly does that mean, Nia? Wes inquired about it.
I muttered, “Uh-oh,” as I noticed something significant.
The behavior of Veda was so shocking that her buddy was taken aback. What was it that she stole? She made a charitable donation of it. With all of the dirty garments! As a result of the word getting out, people are now avoiding her.
I was the subject of Wes’s gaze as he raised an eyebrow.
Would you say that people are ignoring her?
“That is not even the most exciting part!” While laughing, Nia stated.
“What’s the most exciting part?” I inquired about it.
“Brynne,” she said with a chuckle, “Aunt Veda was attending the New Year’s Eve party without being invited.” Which one does she adore? Oh, she’s gone!
Both Wes and I looked at each other. For that celebration, Veda lived her life. It’s likely that she had been planning her attire since the month of October.
Nia hung up while continuing to laugh.
As I chopped a lemon, I said, “She’ll be so upset,” and I was right.
“That’s good,” Wes remarked. “She is deserving of it. Donating the children’s clothes without washing them? What exactly was she contemplating, Brynne?
Tonight, I suggested that we forget about Veda and instead dine with the children.
After a week had passed, Veda called Wes and begged for his compassion.
She screamed out, “They have turned against me.” “I have no idea what I did and I am so sorry!”
Nothing was held back by Wes.
“Mom, you stole the Christmas presents that were given to your grandchildren since you did not get a purse. That selfishness of yours is now paying off for you.
It was her attempt to apologize, but Wes was not going to accept it.
If you want to be a part of our lives, you know that you have a lot of things to make up for. I am really proud of my children. Oh, Mom, it’s all your fault.”
After some time had passed, we got down with the children and explained that Grandma was rather furious with us than with them.
It was Wes who stated, “She wanted to punish both Mommy and me.” There was nothing wrong with what you did.
Would you be so sure? With a pout on her lip, Lila inquired.
A promise was what I said. “This is not the way that we instruct students. In the name of retribution, Daddy and I will never take away your most treasured possessions.
If we mess up, we are going to be given a timeout, right? Jude inquired about it.
“All right, buddy,” Wes responded. Let’s go have some ice cream right now.
It was because of this that a single handbag ignited a quarrel within the family, nearly wrecked Christmas, and taught a grandmother that karma always comes back to haunt her.
Is that the truth? Neither of us is in a hurry to forgive.
The upcoming holiday for Veda will not be celebratory or joyful.
