In a bombshell interview, Elon Musk revealed what’s next for DOGE, confirming that he was setting his sights on the Federal Reserve as the next target in DOGE’s ongoing quest to root out fraud, waste, and corruption within the federal government.
For context, in a May 1, 2025, interview with Reagan Reese of The Daily Caller, Elon Musk was transparent about what the first 100 days of President Trump’s second term have been like for DOGE, adding that he believed that there were countless other cases of fraud within the federal government that had yet to be uncovered by DOGE.
In the interview, Musk described the early stages of his time with DOGE as “an intense period,” adding that when he got started in January 2025, he was focusing on “try[ing] to figure out what’s going on, so just to get the lay of the land.” He added, “Just literally trying to understand what’s going on and try to map out, map out an understanding of the government in general.”
Continuing, Musk clarified that his early work with DOGE was essentially a large-scale audit of government spending, saying, “So, because the federal government is gigantic, very complicated and so if you’re trying to figure out how to stop racing forward, you’ve got to map the territory, understand how money’s been spent and why and where.”
Moving on, the DOGE leader said that he believed that “there are hundreds of thousands of cases of fraud in the federal government,” adding that DOGE’s focus was on “the cases that are the most clear-cut.” Musk explained that in those cases, “we send that evidence to the DOJ, where they run it through their process, which takes several weeks.”
In addition, Musk added that he was confident that there were so-called “fraud rings” operating within the federal government, saying, “There are definitely fraud rings operating, but in order to break up a fraud ring, it’s kind of like the mafia.” He explained, “You have to basically arrest one of the mafia foot soldiers, hopeful that they do a plea deal, then they tell you who their fraud manager is, and you can kind of work your way up the chain.”
Next, Musk confirmed that he was hoping to root out fraud and waste within the Federal Reserve, saying, “I think since at the end of the day, this is all taxpayer money, I think we would certainly look to see if indeed the Federal Reserve is spending two and a half billion dollars on their design.” He added, “But that’s an eyebrow raiser.”
Near the conclusion of the interview, Musk expressed that he was “proud of the incredible work” accomplished by DOGE, adding, “And these are people that can easily get high-paying jobs in the private sector. In fact, came from high-paying jobs in the private sector.”
