The moment that was, to many conservatives, by far the most horrifying moment to occur at the Thursday, January 9 funeral of former President Jimmy Carter, Karen Pence, the wife of former Vice President Mike Pence, snubbed incoming First Lady Melania Trump in a shocking incident caught on camera, refusing to shake her hand or even exchange pleasantries. Making the incident all the worse was that it occurred on the one-year anniversary of the death of Melania’s mother.
In an incident which probably should have been expected, Fox News Channel’s leftist commentator on “The Five”, Jessica Tarlov, praised Karen Pence for the incident despite the pain it could have caused a likely grieving and certainly undeserving Melania. Tarlov was quickly called out online, with critics alleging that her comments were “deranged.”
As background, in the incident at hand, President-elect Donald Trump and his tastefully attired wife Melania arrived at the National Cathedral for Carter’s funeral on the 9th, the one year anniversary of Melania’s mother’s passing. They pleasantly greeted those already there, including Mike Pence, who stood up and shook hands. But his wife Karen refused to stand up, turned away, and refused to shake Melania’s hand. Melania coldly smiled, refusing to rise to the insulting bait.
Speaking about the incident, Tarlov said that she had two favorite moments, the camaraderie between GW Bush and Barack Obama in which W tapped Obama on the stomach while coming over to greet him before the funeral began was one, and the second was the snub delivered by Karen to Donald and Melania Trumo.
Describing those two favorite moments of hers, Tarlov said, “Two favorite moments, definitely [George] W. doing the little tummy pat on Obama, showing a real camaraderie between them. I thought that was very sweet. And the most interesting person to me was Karen Pence, who would not look up at Trump.”
Continuing, Tarlov commented on the snub itself and why she liked it, saying, “She was head down. Like, ‘If you think that my husband should have been hanged for certifying the election results, I have no time for you.’ You know Mike Pence obviously got up and shook hands, but just my takeaways, interesting.” Watch her here:
As could be expected, commenters online were furious at Tarlov for how she praised the incident in which Karen snubbed Melania. The Johnny MAGA X account, for example, posted the clip and said, “Jessica Tarlov says one of her favorite moments of the Jimmy Carter funeral was when Karen Pence wouldn’t look at Trump or Melania. What a deranged individual.”
Agreeing, a commenter on that post noted that the incident, and thus Tarlov’s praise of it, was made all the worse by occurring on the first anniversary of Melania’s mom’s tragic passing. That commenter said, “Today is the anniversary of Melania Trumps mother dying. @JessicaTarlov is either ignorant or just a mean girl.”
Still another, slamming Tarlov for her attitude toward the incident despite the obvious pain Melania was in given that it occurred on the anniversary of her mother’s passing, wrote, “I can’t stand this b*tch. Cold and heartless especially being Melania trying not to break being first anniversary of her mother’s passing. Sick of evil people like this.”
