In a bizarre instance of leftist subversion of the president, Wisconsin Democrat Governor Tony Evers reportedly ordered state employees to subvert federal immigration agents if they showed up at their workplace, regardless of whether the agents had a warrant. This prompted border czar Tom Homan to respond harshly, which caused Governor Evers to panic and try to take back his remarks.
For background, it was stated that Governor Evers made his remarks regarding aiding illegal immigrants in a memo addressed to state employees, telling them not to give any documents to ICE officials without a lawyer present. Employees were also told in the memo not to respond to any queries from ICE agents, even if they had a warrant.
When a reporter asked Tom Homan at a news conference on May 1, 2025, after the document was released, “The president signed an executive order this week threatening to defund sanctuary cities,” he reportedly said. Instead of deporting the leaders who are hiding and protecting real terrorists and illegal immigration, why not simply arrest them? “Wait and see what’s coming,” was Homan’s simple response.
Additionally, regarding “the Wisconsin governor sending directives to the state agencies to not comply with ICE, actually stop your deportation efforts,” another reporter asked Homan for his thoughts. “Wait to see what’s coming,” Homan said again. “I meant what I said,” he continued. If you want to support sanctuary cities, you can do so, but you cannot support what we’re doing. However, we will treat it as a felony if you go beyond that boundary and intentionally house, conceal, or obstruct an illegal alien.
Following Homan’s press appearances, Governor Evers reacted with a video in which he retracted the claims he made in his memo, stating, “I have never encouraged or directed anyone to break any laws or commit any crimes, and I haven’t broken the law, I haven’t committed a crime.”
“Republican lawmakers piled on, encouraging the Trump administration to arrest me,” Governor Evers continued, adding that he was receiving “joint threats,” which “should be the concern of every Wisconsinite and every American who cares about the country and the values we hold here.”
“We live in the United States of America, folks,” Governor Evers stated as he wrapped up his remarks. We live in a legal nation. The rule of law is important. Observing the law is important. He went on to say that he will “never be discouraged from doing the right thing” despite the chance of being detained.
On April 25, 2025, radio host Dan O’Donnell, who reported the story, published Evers’ memo on X and wrote, “If I were a State of Wisconsin employee, this would seem to be a pretty easy choice. This document raises a crucial question: How many illegal aliens is Wisconsin hiring in violation of federal law?
