Sofia Vergara and her husband Joe Manganiello had been married for seven years. The couple was seen together for the last time just a month ago in Hoboken, N.J., when Vergara visited Manganiello on set for his latest project titled “Nonnas” with Vince Vaughn.
Vergara, who is a judge on the NBC hit “America’s Got Talent,” has been in Italy recently, celebrating her birthday with her friends and her husband very noticeably missing from the festivities. Fans grew even more suspicious about his absence when the actress posted a picture with the caption, “When life gives u lemons u come to Italy to squeeze them.”
Manganiello posted a birthday tribute to his wife by writing, “!!Feliz Cumpleaños Sofía!!!” with a picture of them on Instagram. Fans did not appreciate the ‘cold’ wish and suspected something is not right.
The couple wed in a lavish ceremony at Palm Beach in November 2015. The 400 people in their guest list included Vergara’s “Modern Family” co-stars Ariel Winter, Ed O’Neill, Eric Stonestreet, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Julie Bowen, Sarah Hyland and Ty Burrell, as well as Manganiello’s co-stars from “True Blood” Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer.
Hollywood A-Listers Reese Witherspoon and Channing Tatum were also in attendance.
Vergara who is mother to 31-year-old Manolo from her first marriage to Joe Gonzalez, met Manganiello at a White House Correspondent Association dinner in 2014 while she was engaged to businessman Nick Loeb.
Manganiello asked for her number a few weeks later after he heard she had broken up with Loeb. In 2020, he said in an interview about Vergara “I knew pretty quickly that I could trust her, and she knew pretty quickly that she could trust me. And we’re both the kind of people who are capable of putting the other person ahead of ourselves.” He added, “I was capable of putting her wishes ahead of mine, whatever they were, and she was capable of doing the same. Once you have that, you don’t let go of it.”
But now the couple has confirmed some very sad news; they are divorcing. The couple released a statement which read, “We have made the difficult decision to divorce. As two people that love and care for one another very much, we politely ask for respect of our privacy at this time as we navigate this new phase of our lives.”
A source close to the couple revealed, “Sofía and Joe have been growing apart for a while now and are taking some distance from each other to contemplate their future.”
Another source added, “At the start of Sofia’s big birthday trip those close to her were explaining away Joe’s absence with the excuse that he was busy filming back on the East Coast; that excuse barely held up due to the writers strike, but once the actor’s strike took effect, he could have been on the first flight… and he quite clearly is not.
“So now no one out there with her is even attempting to pretend that it’s not over. It’s over. It’s done,” they ended.”
