The husband gets angry with his wife because she doesn’t want to work while he is the only one who can pay the bills. She dares him to switch duties, and he gladly agrees because he thinks it will be easy. But what happens is very different from what he thought would happen.
People who work hard are sometimes forgotten, and Alison was no different. She was a dedicated housewife who was married to Henry, who thought that staying home and doing jobs around the house was easier than working from 9 to 5.
Things were going well until one night, Alison, a mother of four who had been married for ten years, asked Henry, who had just come home from a long day of work, to help her in the kitchen.
After letting out a heavy breath, Henry threw his suitcase onto the couch and fell into a chair. When Alison called his name, he grabbed the remote and changed the channel to the news. She needed his help getting to a jar of flour that was high up on a shelf.
“Heidi, could you help me get this down, Henry?” “I can’t get to it,” she asked.
Henry heard her, but he didn’t answer the call. Instead, he turned up the TV’s level.
“Please, could you come here for a moment?” Alison said again, “I need your help,” this time her voice was louder. This made Henry angry, and he stormed into the kitchen.
Olivia, I just walked in the door! I haven’t stopped working… Can’t I have a moment of peace? You do nothing at all while you’re at home all day. “Look at me, I’m worn out!”
After four days of the challenge, Alison came home to a shocking sight.
Alison fought back and defended herself because his words had hurt her. She wasn’t just sitting around at home; she had spent ten years taking care of their kids and the house.
“Nothing?” You believe I DO NOTHING? I take care of everything around the house. How can you say I don’t add anything?” She argued back.
However, Henry wouldn’t give up.
“Really?” I’m the one who takes care of this family. I work from dawn until dusk and am totally worn out when I get home. You just need to watch the kids, make meals, and clean up while they’re gone. You get a lot of breaks during the day, unlike me, who works hard only to be interrupted by your constant “Honey, fetch this…””Honey, take that.”
Alison was so angry that she suggested a trade: she would take over Henry’s job and let him take care of the house.
“Are you sure?” “You wouldn’t last a day in my shoes,” he laughed. “But I can easily do all of your work.” For me, it’s just a stroll through the park. I have a job going on—do you think you could handle it?”
Alison stood strong and didn’t give up. Since they had studied the same subject in college and met and fell in love there, she was sure she could do his job just as well, if not better.
Henry was hurt by Alison’s words, so he decided to show her she was wrong. He made plans with his boss for her to do his work for a few days because he was sure she would quickly understand how hard his job was. He agreed to start the role swap the next morning because he was sure he would win.
Alison caught a whiff of something burning the next morning as she got ready for work. “Gah! What does that awful smell come from?”
When she coughed and ran to the kitchen, she saw smoke everywhere. The eggs in Henry’s pan were completely burned as he stood over the stove and stared at them. At the same time, the bread was totally burned because the toaster had been left on for too long.
Alison laughed out loud.
“Please move along, I need to get the kids ready for school,” Henry said in a low voice, trying to avoid being teased. He quickly dressed them, giving each one $10 for lunch and mixing up the colors of their socks and ties. He also forgot to give them half of their schoolbooks.
“Go ahead and treat yourselves!” “Dad’s having a rough start,” he said in a strange way as he led them to the car.
“Do you need help?” I have fifteen minutes left before I leave. Alison said, “I can make something good for breakfast.”
Henry declined because he didn’t want to hurt his pride. “No need!” I can do this. I’m getting it quickly. Wait, and you’ll see!”
Alison shook her head and left because she couldn’t picture the mess Henry was about to make.
Henry started doing the laundry when he got home from dropping the kids off at school. He put all the dirty clothes in the washer without sorting the white clothes from the colored ones.
“Is this really that hard?” Forget about it! Just throw the clothes in and add soap. I don’t have to do anything; the machine does it. Let me throw a dinner party for my wife now!”
He looked for recipes online but couldn’t find them all. It looked like everything was hard. He finally decided to make steak tacos.
“Almost done!” Great news! “I’m killing this!” He laughed and flipped the last tortilla onto the pan. Suddenly, he thought of the washing machine and ran to check on it right away. He was shocked to see that all of his white clothes had changed colors.
“Oh no!” I forgot to put the clothes in different piles. “What should I do now?” He was so scared that he put them back in the washer with bleach to try to fix his mistake. He felt better when he realized he had forgotten to cook the tortilla!
He screamed, “Damn it, not again!” and ran back to the smoke-filled kitchen. There were flames coming out of the pan and the tortilla was black and burned. He quickly put water on the stove, which put out the fire. Just as he let out a sigh of relief, he turned around to see a pile of dirty dishes in the sink.
Henry was angry and determined, so he wiped flour off his apron and fell asleep on the couch for a while.
He was falling asleep when a thought woke him up. “Oh no!” “The kids!”
He ran to school and just made it in time. When they got home, though, one of the kids stopped at the door.
“Sadie, what’s wrong?” He asked, but then he realized he had brought home the wrong kid.
“Oh my God!” I’m going to die because Alison hit me. Where is Sadie? Why did you not tell me you were not her?!”
Amanda, the girl, said in a whisper, “I was scared.” “I believed you were our new driver.”
Henry ran back to school out of fear and found Sadie crying at the front door.
He felt bad and said, “I’m so sorry, sweetheart!”
At the same time, Amanda’s parents were scared and thought she had been taken away.
“I thought your daughter was mine.” “They look the same in uniform,” Henry stuttered and said sorry before quickly leaving with his kids.
His voice was low as he said, “Just one day… and it feels like the longest day ever.”
When Alison got home that night, she found Henry sound asleep on the couch. As soon as she walked into the kitchen, she gasped at how messy it was and chose to talk to him calmly.
“Dear, I’m home.” “Get up…”
Henry stretched and yawned, acting like the day had been easy. “Hey, sweetheart! How did work go? I really like this. “I get to chill out all day, just like you used to!” he joked.
“Look, this can work.” I can help you. Alison told her, “You haven’t swept the floor and you ruined the laundry.”
He grabbed a broom and said, “I told you it was easy.”
She shook her head no. Every day, she came home to a new mess. But on the fourth day, she came back to a scene that took her breath away.
“What the—?! “This is crazy!” She let out a gasp.
There was no dirt in the house. The kids were dressed nicely, dinner was served on pretty plates, and new curtains were put up. Too much was right about everything.
She was so proud that she asked, “Did you do all this?” “You’re great!”
But Henry smiled and gave her a bunch of roses.
“My love, I finally get it.” Taking care of a house is not easy. I got a housekeeper because I couldn’t do it all by myself!
Alison couldn’t say anything.
“I agree that running a household is hard work.” “I give up; you win!” he admitted.
Alison was so happy that she hugged him. They kept the maid, and Alison went back to being a housewife, but she had more time for their kids now that she had extra help.
After that, Henry never again whined about his job and was always willing to help Alison at home.
