It looks like this, friends, when you’re having a quiet moment.
World (October 22, 2020) – When Scott Mann met his future wife’s mother for the first time, he didn’t think they would become fast friends.
There was a big change in his life seven years into his marriage. Scott’s wife was told she has leukemia. She was only 30 years old. He has learned since then that his mother-in-law is a real-life fighter.
He woke up one morning to find his mother-in-law sitting in the kitchen, worn out and sad.
He wrote about their story on Facebook (be ready to cry):
I learned from her that it’s important to see people for what they are, not what you think they are.
It was hard for me to understand my mother-in-law’s thick South Virginia accent the first time I met her. On top of that, she seemed a bit bossy in that southern, politely rude way. I gladly accepted her because I knew she was important to the love of my life. This is what some of us do when family forces us to.
Even after 5 years, I still didn’t know her well.
When my wife was 30 and she was diagnosed with leukemia. When our world fell apart and would never be the same, Sharon quietly and strongly took on the role she was born to play. She moved in with us with her disabled Vietnam veteran husband and started taking care of Michele too.
In the past two years, she bought most of the goods, cooked most of the meals, did most of the laundry and cleaning, drove both of the people who depended on her to more than 300 doctor appointments, sorted tens of thousands of pills, and made sure they were all taken on time every hour, every day.
She did this even though she had been told she had cancer six months before. While she was getting a mastectomy. While she is getting chemo.
She hums while she works. A humble and gracious person, she talks to herself every day when no one is around to hear her.
This picture was taken this morning before I left work. I was there, but she didn’t know.
Friends, this is what greatness looks like when it’s not busy. for the 300th time since her daughter got sick while she waits for oatmeal to cook.
Not everyone can have a character in their life. And every day I feel so thankful for this.
