The Story: I used to walk my grandfather to his house when I was seven years old. He always gave me the same grape juice, held my hands, and touched my face tenderly once we were inside. I was horrified to learn years later that he had suffered a work-related accident that had left him blind since the age of 42. He had never really seen me, so his way of expressing his love and picturing my appearance was to touch my face. He often sang to me and was a good man. I wish I had been aware of his blindness so I could have provided him with greater care, but he died shortly after.
