NO MORE LEGEND Steve Harley, the lead singer of the band Cockney Rebel, has died at the age of 73 after a long battle with cancer.

Steve Harley, 73, has died. He was a rock star and was best known for his hit song “Make Me Smile (Come Up And See Me)” in 1975.

The Cockney Rebel musician died “peacefully” at his home in Suffolk on Sunday morning, his family said. He had been sick with cancer for a short time.

He had still been on tour, but last month he had to cancel shows to get treatment.

“Desperately missed” by fans all over the world, Steve’s family said in a statement.

They wrote, “We are heartbroken to say that our beloved husband and father died peacefully at home with his family by his side.”

“The birdsong that he loved so much from his woods was singing for him.” It’s been noisy and fun in his house because his four grandchildren.

“Stephen. Steve. Dad. Grandar. Steve Harley. No matter what you know about him, his heart only showed core elements.

“Devotion, kindness, and generosity. And a lot more, lots of it.

“We know he will be desperately missed by people all over the world, and we ask that you respectfully allow us privacy to grieve.”

After Steve’s death, there were a lot of tributes.

According to The Sun, Sir Rod Stewart was “absolutely devastated” by the news.

He also said, “Words fail me.

“The Cockney Rebel has left us.” Steve, I loved and admired you and always will.

As the Labour MP for Cardiff West, Kevin Brennan said, “Rest in peace, Steve Harley. He sang on the Jo Cox charity record with MP4 just seven years ago and stayed the whole day to talk with the choir and everyone else involved.”

While Michael Warburton, who plays Michael on Corrie, paid tribute on X by sharing a video of Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel singing “Make Me Smile.”

When asked in October, The Steve Harley Acoustic Band said they would have to cancel a bunch of shows in January so Steve could heal from surgery.

The singer said it was “heartbreaking” to have to cancel his tour around Christmas because he was fighting a “nasty” cancer.

The man also said, “My oncologist is happy with how the treatment is working so far.” It is annoying and tiring.

“But the battle goes on. And thank goodness the cursed intruder isn’t changing the voice. Most nights, I sing and play music.

Steve’s management said in February that he would not be able to commit to any concerts in 2024 because he was still getting treatment.

The star of Make Me Smile thanked fans for their support and said, “I hope next year will be completely different.”

Based in London That’s when Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel became famous. They played a lot of different types of music, from pop to prog rock.

They had twelve singles and five albums that made it to the top of the UK Albums Chart.

Harley, Paul Jeffreys on bass, Jean-Paul Crocker, Stuart Elliott on drums, and Nick Jones on guitar made up the first band.

In 1988, the Lockerbie bombing killed Jeffreys and his wife while they were on their honeymoon. They were on Pan Am Flight 103.

Steve’s wife Dorothy and two children, Kerr and Greta, will miss him.
